During the Summer months, I spend a good amount of my time on Bald Head Island photographing family portraits & the occasional wedding. Over the years I have found many great places to photograph and here are my top locations to shoot family portraits.
#1 West Beach
The West Beach is my go-to spot for a great sunset shoot. It sits in between the ocean & the inlet across from Oak Island. This magically little spot has plenty of dunes, sandy trails, and beautiful water views. But what really makes this spot great is its lack of wind. Nothing takes the fun out of a beach portrait like a powerful nonstop wind, it can really be uncomfortable for those with long hair. When we shoot on West Beach that problem disappears.
#2 The Pavilion
The Pavillion is a beautiful open green area beside the marina. It has lots of great places to shoot all in one small area. This is where you can get beautiful landscape photos of the famous lighthouse on the island, Old Baldy. There is a gorgeous inlet waterway that cuts through the island here and a dock where people launch kayaks & canoes. Every direction you turn to relveals something new.
#3 South Beach
The South Beach sits along the Atlantic Ocean and offers wide spreads of vacant beaches to roam. You will not have to worry about overcrowding here. There is plenty of room to run, play, and get all the large group photos you need. This is where you will find most of the vacation homes on Bald Head Island, which makes it a popular spot for family portraits.
#4 The Shoals Club
The Shoals Club is the last stop on Federal road, it sits on the end of the island and offers breathtaking views. You won’t find any hotels or large beach homes here. It is undeveloped coastal bliss, just the way God intended it to be.
